Cherry MX Hyperglide Black Linear Switch

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The Cherry MX Black is a foundational switch in the hobby, the true OG. It set the MX standard and was the first ever Cherry MX switch introduced way back in 1983. Up until today, the very same MX standard is used by every mechanical keyboard switch manufacturer - largely unchanged for four decades. With this background in mind, it is no wonder that when Cherry announced the new Hyperglide variants of the MX Black in 2020, the enthusiast crowd went absolutely bananas. The new Hyperglide moulds promised less wobble, smoother push feel and higher durability - all of which were in fact true, with some caveats.

Much like the original MX Black, the Cherry MX Hyperglide Black retains the signature clacky and high-pitched sound that is oh-so-addictive, especially when paired with a stiff plate and gasket/o-ring mount setup. It produces a clean strike like no other, having a distinct tone that is both loud and sharp. Push feel is also largely the same, weight is very heavy thanks to the 80g spring, with slightly less X-Y axis wobble compared to the original. Smoothness is somewhat of a let-down however, with the Hyperglides feeling almost as rough as before - nothing a simple application of lube can’t solve though. Once lubricated, the Cherry MX Hyperglide truly is a treat, especially if you love clean clacks.
